The Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), a nonprofit organization, functions basically as an oversight and accreditation organization for the cleaning industry. Among its functions is the dissemination of national standards for the cleaning and restoration industries. These standards, while optional, include general best practices, as well as specific and discrete recommendations for specific categories of cleanup/restoration/inspection. These specific categories are wide-ranging and include fire and smoke damage restoration, trauma and crime scene cleanup, etc.
